Hello my dear fellow classmates,
So now taht we are getting older and closer to reaching adulthood, we can actually look back at our childhood, our super awkward puberty stage and hormone-filled teenage years. I dont know how you guys feel but when i look at the past i always think about how interesting and special those memories were. I miss being a little kid who doesnt have care in the world or thinking that i knew it all when i was like 12. I smile and laugh at those times and remember how great tehy were. However, now taht we are pretty much grown up, we are no longer as naive and innocent as we used to be. Our experiences have caused us to grow and understand so miuch more about ourselves nad our envoronment. Imagine taht you would never be able to reach this stage where i am right now. Imagine being stuck as an innocent child for the rest of your life. Although it does sound appealing at first, you all know deep down that you couldnt possibly endure taht. Adam and Chava were both stuck as innocent and naive beings that could almost be compared to children. Dont you think taht god did them a favor by freeing them of taht life? why is it called a punishment?

  1. Well, Carmit, I don't think that Adam and Chava were ever at a stage like we were when we were little kids. They seemed to have been brought into the world as adults because they were already expected to take on the missions and commands that God had given to them. Although they were initially not going to sin, they always had that ability, and we can see that they were truly not like children because of the sin that they did. I think that the punishment was just showing that they could not act in this way. They knew all along what was right and wrong, and as children, we do not always know the difference. Yes, they were naive in the sense that they had never done anything bad, and their experiences led them to do bad things, but I do not think we can compare them to us as children. They were also supposed to act more like angels, but angels are not like children, they are just beings who emulate God and never sin or think about sinning. So, I do not think the punishment was bad, but I think it was still a punishment because they did something bad and could have lived better lives in the Garden, but yes, I agree with you that sometimes we need to move on and have new experiences.

  2. Hm. I didn't know where you were going for the first half of this, but you tied it in very nicely.
It is a very interesting point you brought up. Adam and Chava were living the innocent life.
What was life, really before then? I mean, sure, there was Hashem and that's swell, but what was their point in life? It seems very boring.
However, they knew no other way, so they were probably content with it.
I also agree that it doensn't seem like much of a punishment. But maybe it wasn't so much a punishment as it was .. I don't know. Like, a change because God saw they weren't ready? I don't know. I think it's all for the better. We're not angels.
