Every single person so far has written about korbanot on this blog, so I am not going to do so as well. Rather, I would like to discuss an important lesson that I have learned in the class. After we finally finished learning about the lovely opinions of the different meanings and reasons for korbanot, we began a new worksheet which was so beautifully color coded. (even though our copies were only black and white or gray) My partner, Racheli and I jumped right into learning. We were a little bit intimidated at first as we began to read the few pasukim we were able to cover. We were stuck on one pasuk for the majority of class because we could not figure out the meaning of the words. The wonderful lesson that Mrs. Perl taught me in class was that we need to look up these words on our own. We were forced to open up the actual chumash and look in Rashi to find the meaning. This was not very easy, and it did not end up helping because he did not comment on the word we were looking for, but it was the fact that we went and tried to search for it on our own that helped us. This could apply to other things in life as well. We are not always handed everything we want, we must go out in the world and search for answers and whether we find it or not, it will always help us and make us stronger!
I totally agree with Aviva on everything she said. I would also like to add that Aviva and I are great partners and have excellent work ethics. I think that having the skills to read and understand Tanach is very important.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that this worksheet, once we are done, will help us better understand korbanot in a better way. Although I feel like some of our opinions about korbanot will never change, maybe knowing more about them will make us feel a little more comfortable with them. (or not)
Racheli, you are a very intellectual woman.I love the way you think...so positive. :)
ReplyDeleteMy dear Aviva,
ReplyDeleteWhile I was reading this I was thinking about how right you are. In our civilization nowadays we can find answers in a second by researching things on google, cha cha, shazam and millions of other dandy search sites. I just find it so interesting that we can learn about things in a split second with todays technology (I know it’s very ironic that I’m saying this since I HATE technology and am completely impaired in that area-Sharon can vouch for me). I think it is incredible that we can use technology as a resource wherever we go. In the past, teaching was very much based on memorization because they didn’t have an instant resource to teach verify things like we do today. In this day and age we are required to memorize much less but rather use our critical thinking in order to form and develop ideas about certain subjects. I think this way of learning will intensify even more and we will be forced to use our critical thinking and technology much more than memorization. Sorry if I went off the Chumash topic, I was just trying to convey the idea that I agree with Aviva and that we really had to use our critical thinking and other resources in order to truly understand what we were learning. Although the assignment is evil I know you just want the best for us Mrs. Perl =)
