Therefore, I ask you all, if we are all experts in korbanot which we are, do you think that tefilla is a proper and appropriate replacement for korbanot? Is tefilla truly the best possible equivalent of bringing korbanot? What differences slash similarities can be found between these two concepts?

A Tad repetitive...Tefilla and Korbanot
So as everyone has seemed to stated in their own blogs, we are sick of posting about korbanot. Therefore I will try to be original! When I was considering what to post, I began thinking about korbanot in our day - essentially tefilla. After we have learned so much about korbanot, including many differing opinons explaining the entire notion of korbanot and the reasoning behind them, we are surely experts in this field. Now how do we connect these ideas to our everyday lives? The rabbis have seemed to indicate that tefilla is our contemporary version of the ancient tradition of korbanot.

Sade! I think this is a very interesting point you are making with the Tflia. I sometimes also doubt if tfila is really a good replacement for the Korbanot since it is not stated in the torah to do that (as far as I know) but I guess since the rabbis made this a mitzwah and thought that it was the best way to have a relationship with God it must have a good reason.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think could be a reason for why rabbis chose to make Tflia a mitzwah? Why did they think it was a good idea for a replacement?
Sharon-
ReplyDeleteI think if we would stop davening we wouldn't ever stop to think about G-d and how much He does for us. Even when we don't daven we stop and think about G-d, whether in great happiness or just some kind of pondering...
Davening is important because it reminds us everyday of who we are.
Additionally, you always have to give thanks. Even if you don't know whether or not you believe, think back to Pascal's Wager. It doesn't hurt you to spend 20 minutes just davening. It's only 20 minutes. And during the school year, we are given the time and we can do nothing but pray during that time.
Davening is better than korbanot because korbanot are naeuseating. They Kohen dipped his hand in blood and stuff, and I would never have been able to do that.
Zahava- I think your point is very interesting since I think i understand what you mean, but what about people who do not feel close to God by praying (saying some random words that rabbis wrote and took from other places many years ago) Is that fair that its a must to pray for people who do not feel that way.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I understand your pain, but you must put yourself in the shoes of the people during those times, this was most probably normal for them.
