The Quest of finding the best Meforesh

After having learned all these different Mefarshim in detail, I once again thought about which one most appealed to me. Upon commenting on Zahava's post, I came to the realization that maybe some meforshim's ideas on the Korbanot could be combined!

Can someone enlighten me with their reasons for their likings of one meforesh?
Or can you tell me why and if it is possible that an idea of a Meforesh can be comined with another one?

This will be very helpful for my quest in finding my favorite meforesh on the idea of what a Korban is. Please do not hesitate to state your opinion.

  1. If you could combine the different views of the meforshim, or even create your own commentary entirely, what would you say is the reason why we should bring korbanot? Which elements of each of them did you like the best?

  2. I liked the explanation of either Rav Hirsch or the Sforno the best. Rav Hirsch says that Korbanot are a way of bringing us closer to Hashem and establish a relationship with Hashem. He rejects the idea of a gift or a sacrifice and I like that he did this because I don't agree with that. He also adds that it's the fact that you go to the BHMK and it gives you the feeling of a connection that establishes our relationship with Hashem and not the actual Korban itself.
If I had to combine this opinion with that of another commentator, i would have to say the Sforno because he also has the idea that it's not so much the Korban itself, but instead the reflection that we should do before we give the Korban.

  3. It's very interesting, to think about what we would decide if we could come up with our own opinions. I think that I would just agree with the Ramdan and say that the Jews just did it because they could not go without it. As we learned today in parsha with rabbi Perl, sometimes the Jews would question Hashem, and so the korbanot just allow the Jews to simmer down a little so they don't flip out. Also, I liked how you told me that maybe it is just something we will never know..

Ever wonder how weird it is that people all the way in the middle east were bringing sacrifices and people all the way in mesoamerica (mayans and incans) also brought sacrifices. yet they didnt know that the other existed and was bringing sacrifices. why did people think that was the way to go?

  4. as i have states numerous times, i am completely obsessed with the Rambams answer because it simply makes so much sense to me.He states that Hashem doesnt need our Korbanot but rather that Bnei Israel do. The people lived in a period in which all the pagan nations brought sacrifices to their gods. Therefore, the people didnt know how else to serve god because that was the culture back then. Therefore, they channeled that towards serving Hashem. I like that explanation because i think that that is very true. just like the people established kings because all the other nations did, so too did they bring Korbanot. I also think that that answer is most accurate because even today did the Rabbanim alter things so that we can live our lives that is culturally not completely shocking and different.
